PDO threads · Absorbable sutures used for lifting
A device with an approval for closing wounds, used off-label for faces.
What it is
PDO (polydioxanone) threads are absorbable surgical sutures. Barbed versions are inserted under the skin to lift and reposition tissue; smooth versions are marketed for "collagen stimulation". The sutures are FDA-cleared as sutures; aesthetic lifting is largely an off-label device use.
How it works
Threads provide mechanical lift that fades as they dissolve (months), with some collagen response. Evidence quality is low; complications include dimpling, visible threads and asymmetry.
