Hair loss · What is approved, what is promising, what is marketing
Minoxidil, finasteride, PRP, mesotherapy and the peptide claims.
What it is
For pattern hair loss, two treatments are FDA-approved: topical minoxidil and oral finasteride (men). Oral minoxidil (off-label), PRP, scalp mesotherapy, microneedling, low-level laser and peptide serums (including GHK-Cu) are marketed with evidence ranging from moderate to none.
How it works
Minoxidil prolongs the hair growth phase; finasteride reduces DHT. Both need continued use. PRP has small positive studies with unstandardised preparations. Mesotherapy "cocktails" vary by clinic and lack controlled evidence.
Research status
| Research area | Status |
|---|---|
| Topical minoxidil | FDA-approved |
| Oral finasteride (men) | FDA-approved · sexual side effects documented |
| PRP scalp injections | Small studies · unstandardised |
| Peptide serums / mesotherapy | Weak or no controlled evidence |
Status reflects published research context only and is not a statement of safety, efficacy, or suitability for any person.
Is it legal?
Minoxidil (topical) and finasteride are FDA-approved. Oral minoxidil, PRP, mesotherapy and peptide serums are off-label or unregulated. This is a general note, not medical advice.
Frequently asked questions
Do peptides regrow hair?
No peptide has evidence comparable to minoxidil or finasteride. GHK-Cu has cosmetic-grade data at best.
Is finasteride safe?
It is approved with documented side effects that a provider will discuss; it is not for women of childbearing potential.
Does Vitrex provide any of this?
No. Hair treatments are discussed with a provider after an intake.
